Riding for the Disabled

Project Description:

Based in Washington, the aim of the project is to provide a safe environment where people with disabilities can learn to ride and experience being around horses. Volunteers are required to help with the daily routine including; all aspects of stable management, leading the children on the horses/ponies and general repair and maintenance of the site. Previous experience of working with disabled children and/or horses is preferred but not essential

Girlguiding

Project Description:

Based in Sunderland, Girlguiding is the UK’s largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women. Volunteers would be working with young girls aged 5 to 25 (who are divided into 4 age groups) providing a stimulating programme of activities including camps/holidays. Volunteers who are interested will be linked to the nearest unit. If volunteers would like to only attend a few meetings to set up a specific activity i.e. drama, this is also an option. Women run the organisation for girls and young women and therefore all volunteers must be female.

Sports Development

Project Description:

Based in Newcastle, volunteers are required for Sports Development Project which aims to offer homeless and vulnerable young people the opportunity to get involved in sport and to work towards Sports Coaching and community Sport Leadership Qualification. Volunteers will assist with the delivery of coaching courses and to assist with events, such as 5 aside competitions and multi activity days.

Tyneside Bike Ride Event

Commitment Required: 1 day event, 8am - 3pm


Project Description:

On Sunday 21 September 2008 The Stroke Association will be holding the Tyneside Bike Ride. We are looking for people to undertake the following roles:

Role 1: Blue Hand Gang Marshalls: To direct participants along the route using a big, blue, foam hand; to motivate and cheer on participants; to ensure the safety of all those involved or affected by the event and minimize any adverse effects on the local community. 68 marshalls required for the event.

Role 2: Bike Park Attendants: To provide a valet service for participants to store their bikes; park bikes and issue tokens to participants and ensure that participants return their tokens when collecting their bikes. 2 bike park attendants required.

Role 3: Certificate Desk Volunteer: To congratulate and distribute certificates and medals to successful participants; to ensure participants complete an evaluation form and signpost to entertainment and facilities. One certificate desk volunteer required.

Role 4: Post Event Party Host: To meet and greet participants, their families and supporters and volunteers to the post event party and to signpost to facilities. 2 post event party hosts required.

Volunteers must have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, be a team player, reliable, punctual and flexible
