Advice Work

Project Description:

The Gateshead Citizens Advice Bureau aims to provide advice and information to those who live in Gateshead and to influence a change in policies and legislation when it is recognise as having a detrimental effect on their clients. Volunteers are required for a number or roles within the organisation including advice workers, social policy workers and advice session supervisor’s assistants.

Meet up Leader

Project Description:

Volunteers will help organise, lead and promote social activities arranged by the Student Contact Officer. Volunteers will encourage student interaction at events, gain awareness of any students in distress and deal with situations accordingly.

Volunteers can expect to meet lots of new people and make new friends whilst having lots of fun by making a difference to students' lives. Volunteers will increase their employability by gaining experience and developing skills whilst having lots of fun.

Project Description:

The main objective of the role is to support the safe and secure redistribution of surplus food to Community Members.

Key tasks will involve; assisting in making up food orders for the projects and load them onto the Fareshare van, planning the route, carrying out basic checks on the van, delivering orders, making any additional food collections and deliveries as instructed, returning the van and completing the log book.

Project Description:

The key objective is to support the safe and secure redistribution of surplus food to Community Members.

Key tasks will involve: assisting in the sorting of food on receipt from donors, entering food by description on to a database, ensuing that sorting area is clean and tidy in preparation for the following day.

Museum Assistant

Project Description:

The organisation aims to increase awareness of the role the local area played in both World Wars. The museum restores artefacts and is open to the public with exhibits across the site.

A volunteer can expect to work with the public, give tours around the museum, assist in the daily running of the museum, assist with exhibitions, and assist in restoration of artefacts and research.

Access to a car would be useful due to the location of this project

Student Event Fundraiser

Project Description:

The Role:

  • To work as a group with other Student Event Fundraisers at your university or college to put on at least 2 fundraising events.
  • Throughout the academic year you should aim to raise £700 between you.
  • Your events should be primarily aimed ay the student market and you will be free to be as creative as you like- your events could include a speed dating event, a football tournament, a Salsa night, a Live Band night!

What you can expect:

  • You will have the opportunity to work towards the Chartered Institute of Marketing Career Development Award
  • You will receive an initial training induction, teaching you how to plan your event thoroughly, looking at key issues such as market research, promotion and publicity, resources and health and safety etc.
  • You will receive support from your local Student Programme Officer throughout the planning stages of your event.
  • You will be provided with resources for your activities and specific ideas of different events you could organise.
  • You will gain valuable experience in fundraising, team work, marketing and event management.

Fundraising &/or Admin

Project Description:

Based in Sunderland, volunteers are required to assist staff in their fundraising and/or administration duties. The fundraising role includes thinking of new and exciting ways of raising money and assisting the team to implement these ideas as well as other, more traditional methods. The Admin role involves working and learning within the office. As well as improving your CV you will gain extensive working knowledge of fundraising, event management and office administration within a large National Charity. Volunteers are asked to commit a minimum of 3 months and give one full day (10am-4pm) at least once a week.

Based in Sunderland working with a local charity, volunteers are required to act as advocates for people with learning disabilities. Volunteers will support the people they work with, respecting their wishes whilst putting aside their own agenda or ideas. Student Brand Manager

The Role:

  • To work either on your own or as part of a group to organise activities in your university or college that will raise awareness of Barnardo’s work with children/young people and of our current campaigns
  • You will be expected to carry out the role for the whole academic year
  • Your activities should be aimed at the students in your university or college and you are free to be as creative as like - activities could include visual displays, writing articles, organising petitions and meetings with local MPs to highlight Barnardo’s campaigns
  • Barnardo’s campaign focuses this year are: child poverty, children in trouble with the law and asylum seeking families
