Based at Rainton Meadows in Houghton Le Spring, volunteers would assist the reserves team task force with practical conservation tasks on their 25 nature reserves. Volunteers will learn practical conservation skills, meet new people with similar interests and visit various nature reserves. Volunteers are required on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays anytime between 9am and 4pm as there is no set time requirement

This is a Local nursery providing full day care for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Volunteers are required to make educational areas and activities in the garden and to paint creative pictures on the fences around the garden. Volunteers should have an interest in gardening and an artistic flare as well as enthusiasm and imagination for creative activities. Experience is not essential. Volunteers can expect to create and change a plain garden into an exciting education for children and staff to enjoy.

Volunteers would be required to work at one of the North's finest landscapes. Duties would involve assisting in the maintenance and re-creation of this lovely Grade 1 listed garden, general gardening tasks, making and repairing paths and fences, planting and felling trees, welcoming and liaising with visitors, which may include public speaking and guided walks and generally being aware of any arrangements for the special needs of the disabled and less mobile persons.

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is the UK’s only specialist wetland conservation charity with a national network of wetland visitor centres. The centre in Washington has a number of volunteering opportunities available. Volunteer Warden’s are required for the following areas:

- Conservation
Volunteers will be required to assist the staff at the centre create and manage habitats in the wildlife reserve or to assist in ensuring the collection of animals are looked after including rearing rare wildfowl in the breeding season.
