Case Study: Event Management
Student Name: Nina Russell
Studying: Business Management
Nina has just completed a project through Business Bridge, working at the University of Sunderland Careers and Employability Service. Nina’s brief was to organise the University’s Work Experience and Part Time Job Fair 2007. This was a major event involving the participation of 30 local companies/organisations and the attendance of 500 students/graduates. The event was a huge success and was held at the University of Sunderland’s brand new Gateway.
Nina had previously left a successful career in IT to change career direction and study for a Business Management degree, specialising in Marketing. Since completing her Business Bridge project, Nina has started working part time as a Sales and Marketing Executive at a local publication company.
“I looked to Business Bridge to find a project that would provide relevant work experience to my course; having work experience in IT only I needed to gain marketing experience if I was to be able to compete for jobs after graduation. Organising the Work Experience and Part Time Job Fair 2007 allowed me to develop my networking and communication skills and gave me the opportunity to gain some marketing related work experience which I could use to demonstrate my ability to potential employers.
The experience gained from the Business Bridge project combined with my academic qualifications helped me find a Sales and Marketing Executive job with a local company. They have offered me part time hours until graduation when I will be employed as a full time member of staff.
Business Bridge allows students to develop their skills and to apply what they have learnt at University to a real work environment. I definitely recommend Business Bridge”.
