What is Business Bridge?

Business Bridge is a unique project run by the University of Sunderland that offers local companies/organisations access to student and graduate skills and expertise.  Business Bridge is a specialist provider of a flexible and cost effective service to assist a company with their skill/resource gaps.

Students and graduates register with Business Bridge and express a preference for undertaking certain types of project which is usually linked to their course of study, previous work experience or future career plans.  When a company registers a project with Business Bridge the project specification will be circulated to potential applicants and suitable CV’s will be forwarded to the company.

Students and graduates can be engaged at any time of the year.  During term time students are advised not to work more than 16 hours per week but during vacations there are no restrictions on the number of hours.  Graduates are employed on a full time basis for a period of 6 months.

Student projects are very flexible – working hours and duration should be negotiated between the company and the student.  Payment is also negotiated between yourself and the student/graduate concerned but it MUST comply with National Minimum Wage legislation.

Wide range of expertise

Business Bridge provides access to students from a wide range of disciplines to undertake projects in areas such as:

  • IT
  • Business and Management
  • Law
  • Finance, HR and Administration
  • Art and Design
  • Engineering
  • Media, Video and Photography
  • Sales and Marketing
  • Science, Pharmacy and Environment
  • Sport and Leisure

What happens next?

Talk to a member of our Business Development team – they can answer any questions you may have.  They will discuss your requirements and give advice on the best way to proceed.  We will then endeavour to match the right student to meet your needs.

You will then be sent a selection of CV’s from suitable students from which you can shortlist.  We will then arrange interviews (which can take place at the University) and subsequently arrange a start date and other arrangements with the successful applicant.

The progress of the project will be monitored by the Business Bridge team throughout the duration of the project and evaluated upon completion to ensure that you were happy with the service provided.  In the past companies have often come back to us with further projects allowing them to benefit from an ongoing, developing relationship with the University.
